Seoul: South Korea said that two people were killed and more than 100 missing after a ferry boat capsized at sea with 477 people on board. The passengers were mostly high school students bound for a holiday island. As per the latest news 368 have been rescued.
Officials have concern over the fate of the remaining 107 people who are unaccounted. It is feared that they might have been trapped as the vessel listed sharply and capsized within two hours of sending a distress signal.
The boat was bound for the popular southern resort island of Jeju. Out of the 448 passengers on board the ferry, 324 were students traveling with 14 teachers from a high school in Ansan, just south of Seoul. Lee’s ministry has said that two people had been confirmed dead, including one male student and one female crew member.
Many of them had been rescued by fishing and other commercial vessels who were there on the scene. After that a fleet of coastguard and navy ships arrived, backed by helicopters.
