Chennai: An unexpected ‘Amma’(Jayalalitha) wave has swept Tamil Nadu as per the recently published election results.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) registered a sparkling victory by winning 37 out of the 39 Lok Sabha seats.
This has given confidence to the Chief Minister J Jayalalitha to contest alone in the elections paying great dividends.
The two remaining seats were won by the BJP and the PMK. This is the best-ever performance by the AIADMK.
The Opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and its erstwhile ally, the Congress, which had put up a good show in the previous polls, are now running blank.
This is the first time a single party has won 37 seats on its own. The party had won 18 seats in the 1998 polls, with the support of the BJP-led government headed by A B Vajpayee.
