Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala state’s Kudumbashree which is organized with an intention to eradicate poverty and empowerment of women has been attracted by the government of Bahrain.
Kudumbashree was launched in the state in 1998 as a joint venture between the state government and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. It was implemented through community development societies of poor women, serving as the community wing of local self governments.
Kudumbashree in the state has a unique three-tier structure which is comprised of 1.94 Lakh neighborhood groups, 17,000 area development societies and 1,061 community development societies. Now these units are an integral part of people living in the state.
A government authorized team from Bahrain is expected to arrive in the state for studying the functioning of the Kudumbashree units.
