Washington: A barge containing nearly a million gallons of liquid fuel collided with a ship at a channel in the US state of Texas causing the oil to flow in the channel water.
The unfortunate incident was in the Houston Ship Channel in southern Texas. The barge, which contained 924,000 gallons of fuel oil was colliding with a 585-foot (178-meter) bulk carrier.
Officials said that the barge was traveling from Texas City to Bolivar at the time of the collision.
A sheen of oil has been spread on the water, but the quantity of product lost through water is unknown at present.
Marine traffic in the affected stretch of the Houston Ship Channel has been temporarily suspended. The reopening date of the channel will be informed later.
