London: Chelsea registered a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge while Olivier Giroud’s goal helped Arsenal to win 1-0 at Newcastle United to return to the top of the English Premier League on Sunday. At the same time Everton went back into the first four with a 2-1 win over Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur won over Stoke City 3-0 to get their first victory in the English league.
Chelsea was trailing behind a goal from Martin Skrtel which they equalized after four minutes, through Eden Hazard while Samuel Eto’o scored another goal and confirmed their victory. It was Liverpool’s second defeat within four days following their loss at Manchester City.
Arsenal won the game when France striker Giroud scored for them. He had not scored in all competitions since Nov. 23. But in this game he managed to make a weakest touch to glance a Theo Walcott free kick into the winning goal midway through the second half. They are now on top of the table with 42 points from 19 games.
