Seoul: North and South Korea have agreed to observe reunions of families separated by the Korean War.
This memorable occasion will take place at the Mount Kumgang resort in North Korea between February 20 and 25. The conclusion for the cross-border reunion was taken after officials held talks at the border village of Panmunjom.
It was the 1950-53 Korean War that separated many families living in the land of Korea and forced to held-up at locations of north and south sectors where they were living. It was a highly sensitive issue for the two neighbors which forced them to live separated for more than 60 years.
Letters, emails and phone calls were the communication media between them.
After the 2000 accord the two Koreas were allowed temporary reunions of selected families on minimal occasions.
Many members of divided families are now in their 70 s and 80 s and want to see their relatives once for the last time.
