Death toll rises in South Korean ferry disast


Jindo: Till now in the south Korean ferry disaster, 58 people are confirmed to have dead while 244 still missing. The South Korean ferry was capsized last week.
The death toll was rising steadily when the navy divers could reach the bottom of the Sewol vessel for the first time.
The ferry was on a routine 400-kilometre voyage from Incheon to the southern holiday island of Jeju.
Among the 476 passengers and crew in the vessel, 339 were children from a high school who were on a outing to the holiday island with their teachers.
The hundreds of still missing passengers are presumed to have dead.
Ferry captain Lee Joon-seok was arrested last day with five charges, including negligence of duty and violation of maritime law.
It is still not clear that how the vessel turned and sunk.
It had taken more than two hours to capsize it completely, but passengers were ordered to stay in their cabins by the staff of the vessel.
