Dubai: Dubai Metro rail is considered as the longest fully automated and driver-less urban rail system in the world. The authorities have decided to transform these sophisticated and unique metro stations into museums of art and innovation to inspire visitors and allow everyone in the society to enjoy the pleasure of arts. This was announced by the vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum.
He has instructed his subordinates to complete the metro rail museums project within a year during the time for Art Dubai 2015. In its first phase, four metro stations are to be remodeled both inside and outside with designs, artworks and installations on distinct themes comprising of Islamic art and Arabic calligraphy, inventions, contemporary art and visual art.
In the Islamic art and Arabic calligraphy museum, there will be Artistic works inspired by more than 1,400 years development in Islamic art through its numerous phases.
The museum of Inventions are intended to provide educational and interactive experience to visitors.
The contemporary art museum are to be arranged in such a way to develop a unique perspective of modern art through a collection which reflect the state-of-art with a creative expression.
The visual art museum will highlight the contemporary visual art scene through screening movies and documentaries and displaying multimedia content of cultural and artistic value.
The metro museums will also be featured with interactive displays and state-of-the-art technology such as mobile applications. These renovations are as part of ‘Smart Dubai Initiative’ programs proposed by Sheik Mohammed to transform Dubai as the most advanced and connected city in the world.
