Dubai: Dubai has welcomed the New Year 2014 with more than half a million fireworks display. This event broke the world record for the largest such display, finding place in the Guinness World of records. Ten month long planning and display of over 500,000 fireworks on the New Year’s Eve which lasted around six minutes helped the event to capture a place in the Guinness book of records.
According to the Guinness sources, the fireworks display which covered a distance of over 94km of the city’s seafront was one of the top landmarks of Dubai which includes the locations Palm Jumeirah, World Islands, Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab.
Organizers were aiming to beat the record set-out in 2012 during the fireworks display organized to commemorate Kuwait’s golden jubilee anniversary where a total of 77,282 fireworks were launched. During the final stage, the spectacular fireworks created an artificial “sunrise” along the seafront, with the highest fireworks reaching more than one kilometer in height.
In the attempt to break the benchmark by some margin, the organizers of the fire display were launched enough fireworks within the first minute alone to surpass the previous record. Hundreds of computers were used to synchronize the pyrotechnics, along with a choreographed musical soundtrack.
The Guinness sources said that the ever biggest fireworks display in the history of pyrotechnics was designed by a US Fireworks firm called Grucci. According to Alistair Richards, the Global President of Guinness World Records, the scale of this record was highly impressive and the organizers could ensure all eyes on Dubai
