New Delhi: Eight people including three polling staff and five policemen – were killed on account of a land-mine blast in Dumka district of Jharkhand state in India. The blast of the land-mine was as they were on their way back from the polling station.
Inspector General of Police Anurag Gupta told IANS that ‘five policemen and three polling personnel were killed in the incident while five people were injured. The incident was taken place at around 5 pm. in the evening.
According to him Maoists were behind the attack. The location is a remote area, with the jungle on one side. It was dark when they were returning with the electronic voting machines after the polling for the day had been completed.
There is an assistant sub-inspector of police among the injured. It is assumed that the number of injured could be higher.
