Washington: The solar power toilet proposed to launch in India by the end of this month is really a revolutionary innovation. This is a water-less toilet which can be used with the power of the Sun. If this appears successful, the solar power toilet will be beneficial to 2.5 billion people who lack safe and reliable sanitation around the world.
This revolutionary innovation in sanitation ranges is an Eco-friendly facility and has been designed and built using 777,000 USD as grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The self-contained, water-less toilet with its sophisticated technology converts human waste to bio-char, a highly permeable charcoal.
The project principal investigator and professor at the University of Colorado, Prof. Karl Linden said that the toilet has the qualitative feature to heat human waste to high enough temperature and sterilize it while transforming the same into bio-char which is a highly porous charcoal.
The bio-char has dual use as it can be used to increase crop yields and prepare sequester carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas.
