Kochi: The 13th edition of joint coastal exercises of the Indian coast guard was held Kochi on 14th January 2014. In this venture the counterpart of the Indian coast guard was Japan.
The participants of the joint exercises were Japan Coast Guard Ship Mizuho and its integral helicopter, Indian Coast Guard Ship Samrat, Chetak helicopter, Dornier aircraft, and Coast Guard personals from both the countries. The name of the joint venture was titled as Sahayog- Kaijin 2014. The venue of their performance was approximately, 20 nautical miles away from the Cochin Harbor.
Admiral Yuji Sato, Commandant of Japanese Coast Guard, and Vice Admiral Anurag G Thapliyal, Director General of Indian Coast Guard, who were on board the Indian vessel ‘Samrat’ witnessed the exercises. The main exercises were cross-deck landings and anti-piracy drills. There were also demonstrations on fire fighting as well as search and rescue. After the completion of exercises, both the Admirals expressed satisfaction at the successful conduct of the exercise. They said that such exercises would improve confidence to develop interoperability and enable the coast guards to operate mutually with capacity building.
