India launches GSLV, D5 successfully

Sreeharikotta: India successfully launched their indigenously developed heavy-duty rocket with cryogenic engine from Sreeharikotta and became the sixth nation to manufacture a cryogenic engine independently with the support of native technical know-how.  Other five nations who succeeded in this attempt prior to India were United States, Russia, Japan, China and France. This achievement  has helped India to find a place in the ‘Elite Club’.

The launching was on 5th January at 4.18pm after twenty nine hours count down. The main intention of this launch was to place the communication satellite called G-SAT-14 into the orbit. According to the ISRO Chairman K. Rasdhakrishnan the Indian Space Research Organization has entered into a new era by the successful launch of GSLV, D5. He explained the victorious launch as the outcome of dedicated and precise research works carried out by the ISRO scientists and said that India can be proud for this great achievement.
