Kerala to observe Hartal on Thursday

Trivandrum: The Mullaperiyar Action Council in Kerala has decided to conduct a twelve hour Hartal across Kerala on Thursday (May 8th) following the Supreme Court’s order that permits Tamil Nadu to increase the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam from 136 ft to 142 ft. Meanwhile the court has rejected Kerala Irrigation and Water Conservation (Amendment) Act of 2006 to facilitate construction of a new dam on the Kerala side of the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border. No political party has so far come out in support of the Hartal call, but the entire political spectrum in the State has expressed shock and dismay over the verdict of the Supreme Court. All decisions taken by the supreme court in this regard are in total favor of Tamil Nadu.
