Vizhinjam: A lady who had used a coconut tree climbing device to pluck coconuts was trapped at Vizhinjam in Kerala. The lady whose name is Mini (35) had to stay head down for a couple of hours during the unfortunate incident. The local people who heard her outcries rushed to the spot and made arrangements to rescue her with the support of fire force personnel.
Mini was trained in coconut tree climbing and set out to pluck coconuts. She had climbed a 75 foot coconut tree with the device and after plucking coconuts, she was on her way to the ground. During her descend her legs got trapped in the equipment. Mini tried to release her foot and in that attempt fell upside down. She was left hanging upside down from a 75-foot tall coconut tree. The fire-force personnel from Neyyatinkara and Vizhinjam rushed to the spot and tried to save Mini using a ladder.
Since Mini was trapped even higher, the ladder could not reach her. Local men, who are experts in tree cutting, was called upon by the fire-force and tried hard for an hour to bring her down safely using a net. She was later taken to hospital.
