Kochi: Customs officers have seized liquid gold from a passenger arrived from Dubai. He was later arrested following the incident.

The passenger belongs to Kasaragod in north Kerala and arrived here by Air India Express flight at 1.15am. Even though he was passing through the green channel of the Nedumbassery airport carrying contraband, the customs authorities stopped him at the exit gate on suspicion

On examining his baggage the they could trace out four plastic containers in which condoms containing colored fluid are kept.

The examination of the containers revealed that they contain a highly corrosive fluid with powdered gold dissolved in it. The total weight of the fluid with dissolved gold was 5.345 kg.

Efforts are on to retrieve the gold and quantify it. This is the first time that liquid gold has been seized from a passenger at the international airport here.
