Mahasivarathri: Security tightens in Varanasi

Varanasi: An additional police force has been deployed in Varanasi in advance to contain untoward incident like stampede.
More than 5 Lakh devotees are expected to visit the famous Kashi-Vishwanath temple on the day. Last year about 4 Lakh devotees were visited the temple and this time the police authorities are expecting a considerable rise in the strength of devotees.
Authorities have made special arrangements for the smooth movements of devotees. Sign boards have been fixed at various diversions and set up a temporary cloak room at Godwalia.
The police officer in charge of the security arrangements said that the area around the temple has been declared as ‘no traffic zone’ and vehicular traffic will be prohibiting from midnight.
Metal detectors as well as CCTV cameras have been fixed at all key points in the temple premise.
The IG denied any kind of threat information from the intelligence agencies in view of the Sivarathri celebrations.
