New Delhi: BJP candidate Varun Gandhi’s mother Menaka Gandhi who is currently a BJP leader has made certain remarks regarding the blaming between her son, Varun, and his estranged cousin Priyanka. Menaka Gandhi said that there is no conflict between Varun and Priyanka. Menaka said that Rahul, Priyanka and Sonia are fighting for their own elections while her son for his own. The two factions of the Gandhi family are divided by their political affiliations. Varun and his mother are leaders of the opposition BJP while Priyanka’s mother Sonia and older brother Rahul are the top two leaders of the Congress. Priyanka, 42, is not contesting for the Parliament but is campaigning in Raebareli and Amethi, the constituencies of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi respectively. Varun, 34, has relocated his constituency in Uttar Pradesh for this election from Pilibhit to Sultanpur, right next door to Amethi. Varun is the son of Sanjay Gandhi, the younger son of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. Varun’s father Sanjay Gandhi was died in an air crash in 1980. Rahul and Priyanka are children of the former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated by a Tamil suicide bomber in 1991. Rajiv Gandji was the elder brother of Sanjay Gandhi. Varun’s mother Maneka fell out with Indira Gandhi soon after her husband’s death and later became a minister while the BJP government came in to power.
