Washington: President Barack Obama threatened Afghanistan that he will withdraw all U.S. troops from the country by the end of this year unless a crucial security pact as proposed by the US is signed. He has ordered the Pentagon to accelerate plans regarding the army withdrawal from Afghanistan.
In 2011, a similar event that had taken place in Iraq, persuaded the US government to withdraw almost all their troops from the country.
At the same time, in a rare phone call with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Mr. Obama has pointed out that he is ready to wait for signing the security agreement with the new Afghan president after elections in April. So the U.S. will have to keep as many as 10,000 troops in the country.
