New Delhi: With the conclusion of the last day’s polling, the 2014 Parliament elections in India recorded the highest ever turnout with 66.38 per cent voters exercising their franchise to elect 543 members of the 16th Lok Sabha, beating the previous record of 64.01 per cent in the 1984-85 elections. The turnout details from the three states of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar where candidates contested for 41 seats are still being updated and at the same time, the postal ballots from across the country are yet to be counted. But the Election Commission (EC) officials have pointed out that the final tally would be higher than expected. The turnout on the final day of the polling was 79.03 per cent in West Bengal, 55.29 per cent in Uttar Pradesh while in Bihar 54 per cent.
