Pier jumper beats 'birdman' distance record

Wales: Ron Freeman, a well versed pier jumper from Newbigg, Northumberland, has flown 159.8m (524ft) in the Worthing International Birdman competition and grabbed £10,000 jackpot prize money.
In this year’s attempt he was beating his own previous best created last year.
He had missed the prize money last year when strong winds sent him off the pier sideways.
Mr Freeman was not the only flier to pass the 100 meters mark in the event that the competitors have to achieve to be eligible for the £10,000 prize money.
Tony Hughes sits in second after soaring 117.1 meters in X Plane VIII, down on the 132.5 meter best that he posted last year.
In this pier jumping event competitors have used all types of home made aircraft.
