Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin talked over phone with his U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, to discuss the tension mounted situation in Ukraine.
According to the White House sources, Putin has shown interest over the American proposal for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis and the two heads of states agreed that their respective top diplomats would meet later to discuss steps to be taken for solving the Ukraine issue.
President Obama has already made clear that the diplomatic solution is possible only if Russia pulls back its troops and does not take any steps to further violate Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The phone call from Putin was immediately after an interview aired in which Obama said that Russia could ease tensions with Ukraine by withdrawing its troops and create environments for direct talks with the Kiev government.
