Rare Sri Lankan Leopards are born in France

France: It has been reported that two rare Sri Lankan leopard cubs have been born at a zoo in northern France.
According to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, the rare leopard species have been classified as severely endangered and only about 700 of them are left in the wild. The cubs were born on July 1 and weighed around 2kg.
These leopards are under great threat due to deforestation as well as hunting.
About 60 Sri Lankan leopards are said to have been living under captivity, in various zoos around Europe.
As stated by the Wilderness and Wild Life life conservation trust, Leopards are the largest wild cats to roam in Sri Lanka, and due to geographical separation they exhibit certain different characteristic features from Indian leopards.
The Maubeuge Zoo in northern France is close to the border of Belgium and houses about 300 animals including Asian elephants.
