Riyadh: Around 49 people are reported to have infected by MERS(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) in the past six days. The incurable ailment is found to have caused by MERS virus and claimed 76 lives in Saudi Arabia. The country’s Health Minister said that he did not know the cause of the sudden rise of this virus disease.
According to the Saudi Arabian Health Ministry twenty new cases of the ailment are confirmed during the weekend. Altogether, the MERS virus has infected 244 people in Saudi Arabia, with 49 confirmed cases in the past six days alone. Of the 244 infected, 76 have died. It is said that MERS has no cure and kills approximately a third of the people it infects.
Saudi Arabia Health Minister Abdullah al-Rabia has ruled-out the need for travel restrictions as an extra precautionary measure.
Scientists have linked this major health problem with an ailment seen in camels infecting by the SARS virus which cannot spread easily from person to person and could die out on its own. However, some experts have warned the mutation of virus, resulting for quick human-to-human transmission.
