New Delhi: Central Information Commission (CIC) reported that spouses of government servants have the right to know the salary particulars of their husbands. CIC wanted such details to be made public by their respective departments. This was mandated under suo-moto disclosure clause of the RTI Act.
The Commissioner of the CIC M. Sridhar Acharyulu said that every spouse has the right to know the salary particulars of their husband, who is an employee of the public authority.
The commissioner further said that the details about the salary of a government employee is not at all a third party information and the same has to be voluntarily disclosed under Section 4(1)(b)(x) of the RTI Act.
According to him the salary paid to the public authority is sourced from the tax paid by the common men of the country and hence it has to be disclosed compulsorily.
