Mumbai: STAR India has announced that they will be investing Rs. 1,500 Crore in hockey over the next eight years. Their aim is the enhancement of Hockey in India.
The media and Entertainment Company would be involving with the activities of Hockey India (HI) and the International Hockey Federation (FIH)’s India-centric international engagements including the 2018 World Cup.
Star India believes that the Hockey India League (HIL), international events in India, World Cup and world class production coverage are the inevitable constituents to popularize sport events and bring-up future champions. According to Nitin Kukreja, the head of sports business, STAR India, the local league as well as other international events will help to cultivate such aspirants. He said that the league has the potential to discover about three or four new faces for the Indian hockey.
Former India captain and Olympian Viren Rasquinha and former Pakistan captain Tahir Zaman, will be part of the broadcaster’s team of Star India. They are expected to give commentaries both in English and Hindi.
