New York: Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency in New York. This emergency is to warn against strong winter storm which started blowing recently resulting heavy snow fall and bringing temperature down to sub-zero level. There are also high winds across the state.
The state of emergency mobilizes resources to local government which are restricted to state use only. This allows the governor to suspend laws and regulations which obstruct the deliverance of fast responses. The governor has cautioned the natives of New York and also asked them to avoid travelling and keep inside their home as far as possible until the blow of storm is over. Even though the four New York City airports are open, the operations of airlines are in a considerably reduced condition. More than 412 flights from these airports are being cancelled. At the same time airport authorities are making arrangements to assist stranded passengers by providing them woolen blankets, coats and other required materials.
The metropolitan transport authorities said that the cold temperature and continuously blowing snow storm may force them to suspend bus routes plying in certain areas. They advised customers and employees to rely on train services if required. The New York State Department of transportation and New York State Thruway authority said that ploughs are available statewide to clear snow and arrangements are being made to treat roads with salt.
