Kabul: It is reported that the residents of an Afghan village obstructed by Taliban fighters are said to have been eating grass due to severe food shortages. This incident highlights into the worsened condition of Afghanistan by the Taliban insurgency.
The International Crisis Group (ICG) said that the withdrawal of US-led troops from Afghanistan have created renewed ethnic and tribal conflicts. Now the government forces have been fighting each other while the local people face mistreatment from Afghan soldiers as well as police.
The ICG has also added that the neighboring Pakistan had failed to crack down the safe havens of Taliban leaders from where they directed the insurgency which stopped after the militants were ousted from power in 2001.
The ICG report detailed that the Ghorak village in the southern province of Kandahar had been under the seizure of Taliban for months and now it has been facing a severe lack of food.
Even though the Ghorak’s district center remains under government control, Taliban roadblocks restrict food supply to the location.
People in the enclosed territory said that they have been opted for boiling and eating grass.
