Philadelphia: Last day a whirling storm had hit parts of the mid-Atlantic as well as the urban Northeast of the U.S. removing nearly a foot and a half (45 centimeters) of snow.
The storm had extended 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) between Kentucky and Massachusetts blowing especially hard along the heavily populated corridor between Philadelphia and Boston. According to the National Weather Service, New Jersey has got 15.5 inches (39.4 centimeters) of snow while Philadelphia got slightly more than a foot (30 centimeters). The site Brookhaven near the Philadelphia’s airport had got 15 inches (38 centimeters). It is said that parts of New York City had 10 inches (25 centimeters) of snow.
The arrival of the snow was really havoc. It came down harder and faster than many people expected. A snowstorm warning was posted for parts of Massachusetts, including Cape Cod.
Highways in the New York City metropolitan area were blocked and the blowing snow tripled or even quadrupled drive times of vehicles.
