Mumbai: In India three men are ordered death sentence for allegedly gang raping two women in the Indian city of Mumbai last year. As per the amended Indian Penal Code (IPC) death sentence is the maximum punishment if convicted for more than one sexual assault. Vijay Jadhav, Mohammad Qasim and Salim Ansari were found guilty of gang raping a photo journalist at the Shakthi mill premise. Just a month before this incident the three were gang raped a telephone operator at the same venue.
Five people, including a young boy, were involved in the photojournalist rape case. In the remaining two accused, one has been sentenced to life term imprisonment, while the youngest is facing a trial before a juvenile justice board. Those convicted can go for an appeal in the higher courts.
