China on Thursday began their first complete diving experiment in sea. The intention of such an experiment was to go 300 meters beneath the water as part of their effort to make developments in deep sea exploration. In south China about six divers have started pressurizing a compression chamber in preparation for the dive near Shenzhen. Divers are scheduled to begin diving toward 300 meters under the sea on January 12 and proposed to stay under water for about 17 days. Saturation diving was commenced to enable divers to stay under water of the deep sea for a considerably long duration with conventional techniques. These methods are generally used in deep sea exploration, underwater rescue operations at sea and in engineering constructions at the bottom of the sea. Previously, they had conducted such experiments in laboratories only. The new venture was as part of China’s effort to develop underwater exploration. Last October, China had also tested their underwater vehicle in the eastern Pacific and found that the autonomous underwater vehicle can travel 6,000 meters under sea level.
