Earth Day 2014 has been celebrated with a collection of five animated doodles on the Google homepage, showing the Rufus hummingbird, the veiled chameleon, the moon jellyfish, the dung beetle, a puffer fish and a pair of Japanese macaques.
This year’s Earth Day is its 44th jubilation, since its introduction in the year 1970. The occasion organized by the Earth day network is widely viewed as the beginning of the contemporary environmental movements. The aim of these celebrations is to inform and energize populations enabling them to secure a healthy future for themselves and their children.
Google have done a good job to make an interesting selection of animals including dung beetle, Japanese macaques and Rufus Hummingbirds to illustrate the environmental movement. Many people would not have considered the dung beetle on their list of favorite animals. The Japanese macaques are a far more traditional selection, shivering stoically in their hot springs as the snow falls.
The Rufus hummingbird is one of the smallest hummingbird species, growing to 8cm long, whereas the bee hummingbird is three centimeters smaller.
