Mumbai: Two Indian Navy personnel are found missing and five others seriously injured in a submarine mishap near the coast of Mumbai. The ill-fated submarine is INS Sindhuratna which is a Russian manufactured Kilo Class submarine.
This is the tenth accident that happens to Indian Navy warships and the third in case of submarines within a period of seven months.
INS Sindhuratna was performing an exercise along the Mumbai harbor. Then, a leakage in the battery compartment of the submarine occurred which resulted five Naval personnel to suffer severe suffocation.
The Navy personnel who fell unconscious in the submarine were airlifted to the naval hospital INS Ashwini in Mumbai.
The naval headquarters is very much concerned over the spate of mishaps in the Western Command and has called the Western Naval Commander Vice Admiral Shekhar Sinha regarding the issue.
