New Delhi: Kamal Haasan, the renowned actor and film maker has been chosen to lead the Official Indian delegation to Cannes International Film Festival. Kamal Haasan is currently the chairman of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Media and Entertainment Committee in the South.
Apex business chamber in India, the (FICCI), for the first time this year, is co-ordinating on behalf of the ministry of information and broadcasting for the India Pavilion at the film festival. Kamal Haasan has also been authorized to inaugurate the pavilion along with celebrities in the team.
The delegation comprises of notables such as Arun K. Singh (Indian Ambassador to France), Bimal Julka (Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting), Jerome Paillard (executive director, Marche du Film at the Cannes Film Market) and actor-producer Uday Chopra.
The India Pavilion will showcase Indian cinema across linguistic, cultural and regional diversity, with an aim to create increasing number of international partnerships in the fields of distribution, production, script and technology developments. They have also intentions to develop filming in India, film sales and syndication.
Indian films including south Indian ones have been selected to honor at the Cannes Film Festival for many years now. Kamal said in a statement that he is happy to be part of the official Indian delegation since it gives him a chance to speak to the world of film community about the nowadays Indian film industry.
