Senior BJP leader LK Advani appreciated India’s first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru for establishing a solid democracy in India. He paid this glowing tribute to him while addressing an election rally in the tribal heartland of Madhya Pradesh. Advani praised Nehru along with Mahatma Gandhi saying that both of them had played an associated role in laying down the foundation of a strong democracy in the country.
According to Advani, the solid democratic structure of this country is the outcome of the efforts undertaken by people like Nehru, Gandhi, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. He added that they had played significant roles in the birth of the Constitution of India.
The BJP leader’s comment came months after Modi had said that the fate of the country would have been different if Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel had been India’s first PM.
Sardar Vallabh Patel was given the country’s highest civilian award by the Narasimha Rao government.
