The interesting transporting system Monorail will be opening in Mumbai as the New Year gift to the natives there. The Monorail transportation which has been operating in few countries is coming to India for the first time through Mumbai. The construction works regarding these were started five years before and now the fully completed first phase between Chembur and Jacob Circle which covers a distance of 8.8 kilometers has been decided to open for the public in January 2014. This will be the second longest Monorail route in the world while the first place goes to the one in Japan’s Osaka.
The Additional Metropolitan Commissioner with the MMRDA said that they have attained 90% reliability in this regard and expect 100% before commissioning the same for the public. Meanwhile, to enable regular operations, the entire route requires a safety clearance from the safety commissioner of Railways. A senior official in Railway said that the clearance certificate will not be provided until the opening rules are published. Even though the draft rules are published the railway authorities are waiting for the final rules from MMDA. An official source said that the commercial rules are currently in the public domain for suggestions and objections whereas their publication is not obligatory for the final safety clearance.
