New Delhi: The Supreme Court in India will be hearing matters regarding the recently submitted report on the abundant wealth existing in the Sri Padmanabhaswami Temple, Thiruvananthapuram.There are triking informations and observations in the lengthy amicus curiae report submitted by Gopal Subramaniam, to the Supreme Court. The report has raised some significant questions, some of which are disturbing about their safekeeping and the affairs of the temple in general. The Supreme Court is to hears the matters regarding the said report on April 23.
As per the report submitted by Subramaniam, trunks of valuables, antique artifacts and gem-encrusted jewels are found in the temple. These are in addition to what is said to be already existing in the six vaults around the sanctum sanctorum. He has also observed that the underground pathways having cellars and safe, connect the temple with adjoining palaces. However, in contrary to the earlier impressions that the treasures were safe in the temple, the amicus curiae has remarked that several valuable items might have been lost at regular intervals.
The 575-page report has also pointed out the financial irregularities and inadequate documentation of temple properties. It has also blamed the executive officer, administrative officer and the member of the royal family who is the temple trustee, for the financial misappropriation observed in the Temple.
The amicus curiae is the second report on temple administration submitted by Gopal Subramaniam, who had served as the Solicitor-General between 2009 and 2011. The earlier one was during the year 2012.
