New Delhi: Delhi, the capital city of India has been chosen by WHO as the highly polluted city in the world. But it has been found that 25 other Indian cities have higher air pollution levels than Beijing which was earlier thought to be the worst air polluted city in the world. This is as per the 2014-database version of the Ambient Air Pollution (AAP) that recently released by WHO.
Out of the highly polluted 25 cities in India, three are having the most sophisticated BS IV fuel emission norms. According to environmentalists, this is an aggressive plan to combat vehicular pollution in metro cities. The AAP data contains results of outdoor air pollution from almost 1,600 cities in 91 countries. The AAP has also pointed out that out of the worst air quality 20 cities in the world, 13 are in India.
However, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, which functions under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, has rejected the recent findings put-forth by WHO.
