Beijing: The commander in chief of Chinese Navy has warned US against their provocative actions after a US warship sailed close to disputed islands in the South China Sea.
Recently the US had sailed its guided-missile destroyer USS Lassen inside the 12-nautical mile zone claimed by China around Subi and Mischief reefs in the Spratly archipelago.
Chinese Admiral Wu Shengli said in a video conference that such minor incidents could lead to an open war.
However, the US said that the talks were productive and they would like to maintain it.
According to the US they were conducting routine operations in the South China Sea in accordance with international law. But China claimed it as absolutely illegal.

In recent years, China has been carrying out land reclamation and construction projects on several reefs in the south China sea, prompting the US to call for a halt on such efforts.
