As part of the Digital India initiative, the government has initiated a provision allowing citizens to update certain details on their Aadhaar card free of charge. Where to update your Aadhaar for free
Aadhaar card holders have the option to utilise the free updating service through the myAadhaar portal (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/).
Aadhaar update is free only if you do it online
Updating Aadhaar details is free only through the e-Aadhaar portal. However, physical Aadhaar centers will still charge a fee of Rs 50 for the same service.
Fees to update Aadhaar online after March 14
After March 14, Aadhaar card holders will be required to pay Rs 50 for every change/update they make in their Aadhaar. This fee is also applicable when updating Aadhaar at any Aadhaar center.
Details that can be updated
The UIDAI permits Aadhaar cardholders to avail the free update service for details including Proof of Identity (POI) and Proof of Address (PoA) until December 14. This does not impact other updating services provided by the government body for Aadhaar-related updates.
Details you cannot update
This service is not for updating your details including Name, Gender, Date of Birth or Address in Aadhaar.
Who needs to update Proof of Identity and Proof of Address
The UIDAI has been encouraging individuals to upload documents for Proof of Identity and Proof of Address (PoI/PoA) to revalidate their demographic details. This is particularly relevant for Aadhaar cards issued a decade ago that have not undergone any updates since then.
Steps to update Aadhaar card online
To update your Aadhaar details online, follow these steps:
Go to the Aadhaar Self Service Portal on the UIDAI website.
Log in to the portal using your Aadhaar number, Captcha and the One Time Password (OTP) received on your phone.
Navigate to the Document Update section and review the existing details to ensure their accuracy.
Choose the appropriate document type from the drop-down list and upload scanned copies of the original documents for verification.
Make note of the service request number, as it will help you track the progress of your details update process.
