New Delhi: The general election at the world’s largest democratic country has been started on April 7th. This will be the largest polling held in India till this time. About 814,500,000 people have to exercise their franchise during this occasion. Among these, around 20% are becoming eligible for the first time.
Since around 5 million people have to go through the election procedures, this is considered as the vast democratic exercise in the world.
The election commission has said that they have made vast arrangements to enable the voters to exercise their franchise without much struggle. According to them, no voter should have to travel more than 2 km and no polling station has to serve for more than 1,500 voters.
The election is being conducted in nine phases, within a time-frame of six weeks. The first phase of voting is in the remote hills and valleys of the far north-eastern regions which then move into central upland areas and later shifting to west and south.
