New Delhi: Noted economist Ila Patnaik has been appointed as Principal Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Finance.
The decision for her new appointment came at a time when the Center is functioning as a caretaker government.
One of the senior finance ministry officials said that the cabinet appointment committee was mentioning the name of Patnaik for the Principal Economic Adviser position. According to them her appointment was a routine matter and need not require any clearance from the Election Commission.
Currently Patnaik is holding the position as RBI Chair Professor at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy. In the finance ministry she will be coming in place of Dipak Dasgupta.
She has secured a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Surrey in UK.
