Man eating tiger shot dead in India

Gudalur: Forest guards in southern India said that a man eating tiger has been shot dead by them.
The tiger aged between 10 and 12 years is said to have killed and eaten a man and a woman.
Authorities said that the tiger has killed a farmer in Kerala state and a woman in the neighboring Tamil Nadu state last week.
Another man was wounded badly by the attack of the wild animal.
It was shot dead at the Gudalur forest on the state border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
It is said that India’s tiger population has been growing rapidly with 2,226 tigers recorded in 2014 while 1,706 in 2011.
The district authorities had deployed 160 forest guards to hunt down the tiger, which was spotted in the forest while chasing a deer.
According to the official the animal was shot dead when it attempted to attack the guards.
There were a spate of tiger attacks in India last year and about 20 people were killed during that period.
The killing of humans had created tension in the state.
The angry farmers were threatened to destroy government offices and warned to hunt down the tigers themselves if the ruling government did not take any immediate action.
With increasing human invasion into their reserves, tigers often compete for resources with nearby villagers, leading to conflict.
According to experts, densely packed tiger forests are the price of India’s conservation success.
Often, the young and old tigers in the forests start wandering outside, bringing them into closer contact with people.
