Oslo: Two parliamentarians of Norway sent a letter to the Norwegian Nobel prize Committee, requesting to nominate the US born Edward Snowden for the 2014 Nobel peace prize.
According to them the disclosed matters by Snowden’s have made contributions to maintain trust between nations as well as peoples and are essential factors for the enhancement of peace.
The public debate and the political changes that followed after Snowden’s disclosure has also contributed a great deal for a stable and peaceful world order.
The last date for nominating candidates for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014 is Feb 1. But the Norwegian Nobel Committee members have provisions to make nomination just before their first meeting after the deadline.
The distinguished persons authorized to nominate favorites include former Nobel peace prize laureates, members of national assemblies, government nominated members including university professors in certain disciplines and members of international courts.
Snowden was earlier nominated by Stefan Svallfors, one sociology professor from Sweden in July 2013.
