Natural oils use pores as gateways to reach the topmost skin layer to provide moisture. But the moment they end up enlarged, your self-confidence might drop. Enlarged open pores on face can make your skin look aged and unhealthy. They can also increase other skin care problems, such as acne and blackheads. People with oily skin usually have many large pores. Large pores can be bothersome and even embarrassing to those who have them. They oftentimes have excess oil secretions, which attracts dirt and grime leaving them even more noticeable. There are two different glands on human skin, sweat glands and sebaceous glands. Sweat glands are found in places such as the armpits and genital areas. Sebaceous glands are oil glands which produce and discharge oily secretions, called sebum, into follicles. The follicles where sebum is produced are called sebaceous follicles when they are on the face. Although everyone produces sebum, some people produce it more than others, resulting in oily skin.
The size of your pores is initially determined by genetics, meaning that if your father or mother had large pores, you are more likely to have them. However, as we get older, skin naturally loses elasticity. This can cause it to sag and stretch which can elongate the pores, leading to them increasing in size. Excess sun exposure can cause the collagen to break down under the dermis, leading to the skin being pulled which tugs on the pores making them larger. Clogged pores are also a cause of large pores.
