Washington: United States has named one mountain in Antarctica in honor of an eminent Indian born American scientist called Akhouri Sinha.
His pioneering biological research expeditions were provided important data about animal populations.
Akhouri Sinha, one Additional Professor in the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development at the University of Minnesota, was recognized by the US Geological Survey and so they named the mountain as Mt Sinha, in honor of the remarkable works he had carried out as an explorer in the year 1971-72.
Sinha was one of the team members who had carried out population studies of seals, whales and birds in the ice packs of Bellingshausen and Amundsen Seas using US Coast Guard Cutters called Southwind and Glaciers in 1972 and 1974.
