Aizawl: After the defeat in four state elections, Congress today made a consolation news by winning the Mizoram state elections with a two thirds majority in the Assembly by clinging up 32 out of 39 seats, while Opposition MNF got five and MPC one. The Congress had won 32 seats in the 2008 Assembly elections in this Christian majority state. Counting of the one seat at Lawngtlai East, could not be completed because of certain difficulties in an EVM at Tialdawngilung polling station, Joint Chief Electoral Officer H. Lalengmawia told PTI. He said that the re-poll would be held at this constituency on December 11th and thereafter the counting on December 12th. Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, celebrated a fifth term victory from both Serchhip and Hrangturzo seats he contested. He was elected from Serchhip constituency for a record ninth time since 1978. Here, he defeated his nearest Mizo National Front (MNF) rival Lalramzauva, by a margin of 734 votes in a four-cornered contest. In Hrangturzo, the Chief Minister won over Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) rival Lalthansanga by 1,638 votes. Thanhawla received 5173 votes in a five-cornered contest.
