China: The Great Wall of China is being designated as graffiti area to prevent visitors from defacing the famous monument.
One of the most popular and best-preserved parts of the Great Wall is at Mutianyu which is about 40 miles (70km) north-east of the capital Beijing. Officials are annoyed by the tendencies of tourists in leaving their marks or inscriptions on the great wall. This practice is despite the warning signs kept by the side for forbidding the act.
Now, visitors can leave graffiti at the special zone in the Wall referred as Number 14 Fighting Tower building. The authorities have plans to open two more such areas if the initiative works. There is also proposal for an “electronic graffiti board” near the wall.
Almost all tourists visiting the great wall like to carve words on it.
Authorities of the great wall administration are thinking to protect the ancient buildings in the long run.
They have plans to develop the graffiti writing area as a new scenic spot of Mutianyu. Another official have the opinion to arrange an approved place to leave their favorite marks.
As per the media reports, English is the commonly observed language on the ancient monument. Marks from other languages are also seen very scarcely.
