Sanaa: A US drone strike in Yemen has attacked a group of people driving a car killing at least four people and injuring several others. Officials of the Yemeni interior ministry said that the incident was at the central province of Marib.
The target of the strike was suspected militants who were driving along the road in Wadi Adida in Marib province. There were severe explosions after the strike and the officials suggested the possibility of weapons or ammunition in the vehicle. According to the Official sources, about seven individuals were seriously injured in the attack that occurred about 173 km northeast of Sanaa.
According to the Yemeni interior ministry, the US drone strike has prevented the Al Qaeda militants from seizing some government institutions in Marib province.
It was the second US drone strike since the beginning of the year. Earlier this month, an unmanned US plane had killed two suspected Al Qaeda militants in Yemen’s southeastern province.
The US has accelerated their drone strikes on militant networks in Yemen since February 2012. So, the Yemen-based Al Qaeda militants have been launching frequent revenge attacks on local targets, military and foreign missions in the country.
