The reserve forest at Begur is about 20km east of Mananthavady in the Wayanad district. The marvelous dense forest of this sanctuary which locates amid misty Western Ghats is also diversified across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. It is highly spectacular to assimilate the natural beauty of the thickly grown green vegetation which gives shelter to various species of animals and reptiles. The luxuriant wildlife landscape is assumed to be the weakness of nature lovers. Begur sanctuary is the house to numerous distinct varieties of flora and fauna. The common animals seen in this forest are elephants, bear, jungle cat, civet cat, monkeys, panther, bison, spotted deer, wild dog, wild boar etc. Apart from these, Begur is the house of negligible amount of tigers found in Wayanad forests. Due to scarcity of water during summer, animals from other nearby sanctuaries such as Bandipur, Nagarhole and Mudumalai, relocate to Begur wildlife sanctuary in Wayanad where drought is not generally effected. The common bird varieties seen here are kingfisher, black bulbul, peafowl, jungle fowl, woodpecker, laughing thrush, myna etc. Flora varieties in the sanctuary region include teak, eucalyptus, rosewood, vengal, etc. Natural jungle beauty together with wildlife makes Bugur sanctuary totally exceptional.
